on the author
My name is Serena Qiu, and I am a recent graduate now pursuing studies in art history and visual theory on my own. I’m based in New York, working in the art world’s market, with interested art criticism and commentary.
My interests center around museum presentation, alternative gallery spaces, installation and site-specific art, and the emerging art world, though this finds frequent tangents in other visual practices like design and fashion.
on the blog
This blog was started to be an ongoing writing exercise for my interests in the presentation of art in institutions. My writing here is meant to be an extension of my studies, in which I look at art historical practices from a historical, formal and critical point of view. In this blog however, I plan to explore the complexity and legacies of artistic display as both theorists and practitioners must understand it in these times.
My work here will be informed by anything from critical theory to the short-list of gallery openings in the paper. I would love to hear about anything you’d have to share–shows you’ve seen, philosophy, suggestions, contradictions. Get in touch!
The Micro Gallery Project is a side project of mine, an experiment in micro-curating as a presentation of art given our present forms of expression. For more information on this please either see my post on the subject, or the brief description on the site itself.
